‘John Carlin & The Kids Music Underground’ TV pilot

Join John and the KMU team (Yuki, Desmond, Pablo, and Genie), as John is magically transported to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to help a little girl feel better about her new school. The sights, sounds, rhythms, language, and foods of Brazil are celebrated and explored, as John visits a children’s samba school, attends the children’s Carnival parade, and samples foods from the local market, meeting many different and colorful characters along the way. Also starring Frances Sternhagen as Mrs. Mazzotti.

Mrs. Mazzotti
Mrs. Mazzotti is the friendly shop owner of Mazzotti Music, a small music store in Brooklyn, NY that John works at, when he’s not teaching music classes to kids. Rumor has it that she used to be a popular actress and singer back in the day. She likes to bake yummy chocolate chip cookies.
Eliza
Eliza is a 5 year old girl whose Aunt Jess is an old friend of John’s. She recently moved to a new school, and was having a hard time fitting in, so her Aunt Jess suggested they drop by the Kids Music Underground, to pay John a visit. (The KMU is, after all, ‘the place kids go to help figure things out.’) She likes ballet, dressing up, and playing with her cousins and her little brother. She also likes to hide, then jump out and say, ‘Boo!’
Aunt Jess
Aunt Jess is an old friend of John’s from his early days as a musician and teacher. She brings her niece Eliza to the KMU to help her solve her problem of feeling different at her new school. Jess likes teaching writing to kids in schools, and singing karaoke.
Yuki
Yuki is a super smart cat-girl word ninja – always curious, and ready for adventure. She loves reading, computers, and learning new words. (She knows how to say ‘thank you’ in fifteen different languages!) Her favorite instrument is the recorder, which she started playing when she was just a kitten.
Desmond
Desmond is the grooviest, most chill, earth-friendliest purple dreadlocked koala bear you’re likely to ever meet. He likes to grow funky fruits and vegetables in his organic garden. (He’s been known to engage in lengthy conversations with trees and bushes.) He also plays a mean bass ukelele.
Pablo
Pablo is a three-dimensionally challenged Cubist bull. He is an expert (or aficionado, as they say in his native land) of all things cultural, including fashion, festivals, music, and art. He loves dressing up, and having his picture taken. He plays the conga drum with his nose(ring), and his favorite color is red.
Genie
Genie is the KMU’s Super Awesome Computer-Guitar. She talks, sings, and finds facts all around the world, to help John and his friends solve kids’ problems. Her favorite song is ‘Satellite of Love’.
